News Releases
May 11, 2009: The implementation of the new document requirements to enter the United States (U.S.) under the U.S. Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) is fast approaching. The WHTI is a U.S. law that requires all travellers, including Canadian and American citizens, to present a valid passport or other approved secure document when entering the U.S.
Effective June 1, 2009, Canadian citizens will be required to present a WHTI-compliant document to enter the U.S. by land or water. Attached for your use is a Government of Canada information sheet which lists the approved documents for Canadian citizens to enter the U.S. by land or water.
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) Website contains detailed information and background on the WHTI (including an online toolkit containing fact sheets), the Enhanced Driver’s Licence program, and how Canadian citizens can prepare for the June 1, 2009 implementation. Note that the Alberta's driver's licence and ID card are not WHTI-compliant.
April 23, 2009: Trade, Investment and Labour Mobility (TILMA) legislative changes have been passed. TILMA-related Corporate Registry transactions will be available commencing Monday, April 27, 2009. For further information, click here.
